DUMMY ROUNDS

Dummy Rounds includes cartridges manufactured or modified to be inert, nonfunctional, or incapable of firing. These rounds were produced for training, handling drills, weapon function testing, instructional display, and safety demonstrations, and they appear across virtually every caliber and weapon system from the late nineteenth century to the present.

This category contains a wide range of dummy constructions, including solid metal rounds, drilled or fluted cases, weighted inserts, plastic or aluminum bodies, sectional examples, and purpose built training cartridges for military, law enforcement, and commercial use. Variations in markings, materials, color coding, and internal design often reflect specific training doctrines or manufacturer practices. For collectors and researchers, dummy rounds are valuable for understanding how firearms were taught, tested, and demonstrated, and they often preserve rare configurations or markings that differ significantly from live service ammunition.
