FLECHETTES

Flechettes are small, dart-like projectiles developed primarily for military and experimental applications, particularly in the mid-twentieth century. Designed to be fired singly or in clusters, often from sabot carriers, flechettes were intended to offer high velocity, flat trajectory, and distinctive terminal behavior compared to conventional bullets. Their use spans rifle, shotgun, and experimental systems, including Cold War era research into alternative projectile designs.

This category includes individual flechettes and grouped examples in a variety of lengths, materials, coatings, and fin configurations, along with associated sabots, dummies, and inert specimens. Variations reflect different national programs, test concepts, and production methods rather than standardized service adoption. For collectors, flechettes are valued for their technical novelty, limited production, and strong connection to experimental weapons development, making them a focused and well-defined area of advanced ammunition collecting.
